Cheers and welcome to our 5th Annual Advent Calendar!

This month, we’re embarking on a high-end bourbon journey, reviewing 25 bourbons from award-winning distilleries across the United States. From December 1st to December 25th, we’ll explore everything from small batches to single barrels, all packed with flavor. Join us in toasting to another incredible year as we share some of our favorite bottles with you!

Our reviews are done using a Glencairn glass and neat, but remember, it’s your bourbon! Enjoy it however you like—over ice, with water, or in a cocktail. The key is to enjoy it your way and not let others influence your experience.

Enough of me rambling. Now, let’s dive into what brought us here!

Review:

As we dive into the Toasted Barrel, I wanted to know what makes it different and off to their website we go!

Charred to start. Toasted to finish. This unique expression innovates on our award-winning Small Batch Bourbon by finishing it in a second, custom toasted barrel: adding an extra layer of sweet oak complexity.

Elijah Craig takes the same bourbon that everyone knows and loves and finishes it in a toasted barrel. This adds a whole new taste profile to the pour. With that being said, I fell in love with this bottle ever since it was released a few years back. I am hoping that it will start to become easier to find - because after we dive into this - I'm sure more of you will love it too!

Nose:

This bourbon might be one of the more enticing aromas I've came across over the last couple of years. The sweet notes of caramel and vanilla are complemented incredibly well by a hint of toasted marshmallow.

Palate:

There's a solid s'mores and spice vibe through out the whole palate. The caramel and sweetness from the nose linger through out the pour. The pallet on this pour has been thoroughly enjoyable over the past few years.

Finish:

The heat and spice blend seamlessly with the caramel sweetness, creating a finish that keeps you coming back for more. Medium in length.

Final Thoughts:

This isn't your typical high-proof punch that many top bourbons offer. Honestly, I don't think I have enough words to fully express how much I enjoy this bourbon. The toasted barrel expression adds a unique dimension to the Elijah Craig pour that I absolutely love. I might go out on a limb and say this is one of my top 5 bourbons. It's definitely in my top 3 within its price range. Every sip leaves you wanting more, and I'll keep buying it whenever I see it on the shelf."

Cheers y’all! 🥃
