Welcome to our 6th Annual and Final Advent Calendar.
This month, we’re embarking on a high-end bourbon journey, reviewing 25 bourbons from award-winning distilleries across the United States. From December 1st to December 25th, we’ll explore everything from small batches to single barrels, all packed with flavor. Join us in toasting to another incredible year as we share some of our favorite bottles with you!

If you frequent liquor stores, you’ve probably asked or heard, “Do you have any Buffalo Trace?”
Buffalo Trace is such a staple in my bar that is just makes sense to make it Day 1 of our calendar. Is it the best bourbon I have ever had? No. Is there a better bottle out there that is under $30 - that right there is where the debate starts. For me, I think it’s one the best budget friendly bottles that you can have in your bar (that is if you can find it and find it at a fair price!)
Nose:
The nose is inviting, with sweet aromas of caramel, vanilla, and honey. The sweetness intensifies as you swirl the bourbon in your glass.
Palate:
The first sip offers a perfect balance of sweet and spice. Some find Buffalo Trace too sweet, but for me, it’s just right, with notes of caramel, sweet butter, and baking spices.
Finish:
The finish maintains the sweetness from the palate, which I love. It’s medium in length, with caramel sweetness and a hint of oak.
Final Thoughts:
It’s Buffalo Trace and it’s allocated for a reason. At MSRP - there isn’t a better bourbon at that price point for my taste buds. In an ever changing bourbon market and different expressions “coming out of the woodwork”, Buffalo Trace is the consistency that I need in my life. Will it provide the most complex and unique pour? Sure won’t. But it has always been the perfect pour to get me where I wanted to go and couldn’t have thought of a better bottle to kick off the 5th annual advent calendar!

Redemption is all about celebrating rye, and their High Rye Bourbon Single Barrel Select takes that philosophy to the next level. This expression amps up the rye content for a bold, spicy character while still delivering the sweetness bourbon lovers crave. Being a single barrel, every bottle is a unique experience—think of it as bourbon with a personality.
Nose:
Caramel and vanilla lead the way, rye spice jumps in with a peppery kick, dark fruit adds depth, and oak with baking spices hum softly in the background.
Palate:
Bold and layered—caramel and toffee start sweet, rye spice and black pepper bring the heat, clove and cinnamon add warmth, while dark fruit and oak linger in the background. Full-bodied and unapologetic.
Finish:
Long and warming—rye spice and oak dominate, with vanilla and dark fruit trailing off for a smooth, lingering goodbye.
Final Thoughts:
If bourbon had a daredevil cousin, this would be it. Redemption High Rye Single Barrel isn’t here to play nice—it’s here to spice things up and make your taste buds do a happy dance. With a rye content that’s practically showing off, this bourbon is bold, fiery, and full of personality.

At first, I really did not know what to think of this bottle. Read some hit or miss reviews, but felt like Gibby's had it at a great price and wanted to try it. And then it hit me. This bottle is like the quiet kid at the party who suddenly drops a really good joke that keeps you on your toes for what's to follow. Now, all of a sudden, you have a new friend.
Nose:
Vanilla comes in hot first but quickly accompanied by notes of grain and oak. There's not much more to this pour outside of some quick hints of fruit and maybe the aroma of a Hall's Cherry cough drop.
Palate:
Can't get the cough drop out of my mind on this one - hopefully that's not the case for you. There are hints of citrus, vanilla, and baking spices that show up every so lightly. I would say oak and spice take over the show heading into the finish.
Finish:
This has a short to medium finish. Kind of reminds you of a polite guest who doesn’t overstay their welcome. Layers of charred oak, cinnamon, and pepper wave goodbye, with a subtle vanilla and dates have a little sweetness help round out the finish.
Final Thoughts:
To be honest, I have more questions than I do answers about this bottle and I oddly kind of love that. From what's in the glass, this bourbon isn’t here to flex. It’s subtle, heritage-driven, and a little unpredictable. At any price under $40 - I would consider this bottle worth a try - especially if you trust the store or group that is picking the barrel. It could be a good intro to single barrels, but if you crave bold, high-proof drama, this one’s more rom-com than anything else.

Buckle Up! If bourbon had a daredevil, it would be Ezra Brooks Cask Strength Single Barrel Select. With its no dilution, no chill filtering—just raw, unfiltered character straight from the barrel - This isn’t a whiskey that tiptoes into your glass; it kicks the door down and demands your attention.
Nose:
Lean in and you’re greeted by a rush of caramel and vanilla, but that’s just the opening act. Toasted oak and char rise like smoke from a campfire, followed by dark fruit—cherry, fig—and a whisper of leather and tobacco.
Palate:
The first sip? Sweet caramel and brown sugar, smooth as a Southern drawl. Then the spice hits—cinnamon, nutmeg, and a peppery rye kick that reminds you this bourbon means business. Oak and char bring depth, while a hint of dark chocolate sneaks in like a secret indulgence. At 120+ proof, the heat is real, but it’s a warm embrace, not a slap in the face.
Finish:
Long, lingering, and unapologetic. Spice and oak dominate, with a sweet echo of vanilla that fades like the last note of a blues guitar. It’s the kind of finish that makes you pause, smile, and pour another.
Final Thoughts:
Ezra Brooks Cask Strength Single Barrel Select isn’t just a bourbon—it’s a statement. Bold, complex, and full of character. This is the highest proof of any of the calendars so far and really hope you buckled up for this ride because if you weren't ready for the heat, that sweat may be rolling right now.

When you think of Bottled-in-Bond bourbons, you expect tradition, quality, and a little bit of history in every sip. 1792 Bottled in Bond delivers all of that and meets every requirement of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897: distilled in one season, by one distiller, aged at least four years, and bottled at exactly 100 proof.
But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in.
Nose:
I get a lot of vanilla and caramel on the nose with hints of spices that you would get from a rye/high rye bourbon
Palate:
The caramel and vanilla rolls perfectly into the palate and has a nice sweetness to with hints of dried fruit and chocolate.
Finish:
That rye spice on the nose comes full circle into the finish and pairs perfectly with the sweetness from the palate and the finish is just right in length.
Final Thoughts:
1792 Bottled in Bond is a bold yet approachable bourbon that balances sweetness and spice incredibly well. At under $50, this provides great value for a Bottled-in-Bond expression. Whether you’re a bourbon enthusiast or just starting your journey, this bottle deserves a spot on your shelf in my opinion.
So, I will come out and say that I am very biased to this pour. The first time I ever tasted the Bottled in Bond was in a blind tasting and it beat out Blanton’s Gold, McKenna 10, and Basil Hayden 10 Year. Since that day, every time I see it at MSRP, it comes home with me.
Overall I am a sucker for any Bottled in Bonds, but something about this pour is special. It has a buttery mouthfeel and the sweet and spice pair perfectly for an overall wonderful pour. Hope you all enjoy it as much as my palate does.

This isn’t your polite, “sip by the fire” bourbon—it’s bold, brash, and unapologetically strong. At barrel proof, it’s basically bourbon saying, “I woke up like this.” Rebel (formerly Rebel Yell) has been around since the 1800s, but this single barrel cask strength expression is where things get spicy—literally. It’s wheated bourbon, which means it swaps rye for wheat in the mash bill, giving it a softer sweetness… until the proof kicks down the door like a SWAT team.
Nose:
First sniff: caramel and vanilla, classic bourbon vibes. Then—bam!—dark fruit, toasted oak, and a hint of leather. It smells like a cowboy rode through a bakery and left behind a fruitcake. There’s also a whisper of spice that says, “Don’t underestimate me.”
Palate:
Sip #1: Sweet wheat greets you like an old friend. Sip #2: Cinnamon and baking spice crash the party. Sip #3: You realize this bourbon isn’t here to make small talk—it’s here to make memories (and possibly test your tolerance). Rich caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of nuttiness round things out. It’s bold but balanced, like a heavyweight boxer who also writes poetry.
Finish:
Long, warm, and lingering—like that one friend who says goodbye and then keeps talking at the door for 20 minutes. Expect oak, spice, and a gentle sweetness that sticks around just long enough to make you pour another.
Final Thoughts:
Rebel Cask Strength Single Barrel Select is not for the faint of heart. It’s for those who like their bourbon with a side of adventure and maybe a fire extinguisher. Price? Around $60–$70, which is a steal for this level of character and punch. If bourbon were a movie character, Rebel Cask Strength would be the antihero—rough around the edges, full of surprises, and impossible not to root for.
